4 Ways to Know You’re Tapping Into Your True Self

I get it, it’s super easy for us as business owners to get lost in the sauce of trying to be what we think everyone else wants us to be.

We start to create programs and offers that are out of alignment. We feel the “ick” more often than we should when we are selling our services. We don’t feel deeply connected to why we wanted to do this work from the beginning. When we do these things one thing we can be sure of is that we are not present with our truest self. Instead, we’re too busy doing what we think we “should” be doing and living in the world of “shoulda, coulda, woulda’s.”

Enough of that.

Cue you needing to tap into your truest self. I think you forgot but you are mighty powerful and the gifts you want to share with the world, in the way you want to share them are important. Subtle side note: make sure you have someone in your life who will remind you of that when you’ve lost that belief.

What does tapping into yourself even mean? Tapping into your truest self means you meet yourself where you’re at now. You don’t try to be someone else, do something else, you just are. You care less about what everyone else is doing and actually act on what you want to do. It means you're connected to your heart, mind, and body all at once. It means you’re listening, not to everyone else’s opinions (which we receive all of the time) but you sift through and decide that your opinion of yourself and the way in which you are showing up matters most to you.

Now, paying attention is key here. Cultivating a new sense of awareness is the bread and butter. Here are 4 ways to know that you’re tapping into your truest self:

  1. You're genuinely proud of yourself

(Aka you're standing taller, feeling better, and putting good out into the world while not judging yourself for it). I know you’ve heard someone say “I’m so proud of you!” and inside you don’t really understand why. It felt forced for you to say “thank you,” and it felt uncomfortable or undeserving to hear it. My guess, is you either don’t care about the thing that someone else is proud of you for doing or you don’t believe they actually could be proud of you because it felt out of alignment.

Your truest self will feel proud of you (and you won’t need to hear someone else say it to feel it). Even when things don’t go according to plan (which feels like all of the time). You’ll hear “I’m so proud of you!” and think to yourself or say out loud “You know what? I’m proud of myself too!”

2. You've got an overwhelming giddiness about life.

(Aka you feel alive and at peace with all that is happening around you). Let’s talk about what it means and feels like to actually be alive for a second. A lot of times we hear about people wanting to be “happy,” that they are in the pursuit of happiness. Now, I get it. That sounds lovely, but I want to challenge this thinking.

It’s simply not realistic to feel one emotion and to be frank, I think it's a little boring. Don’t you? Something I personally realized in the last couple of years is that when I allow all emotions in (yes, even sadness, anger, grief, etc.) I feel more alive because I’m present to the fact that I’m actually out in the world experiencing life and things even if they turn out not as I had initially hoped.

Once you become okay with being really alive (aka feeling it all) then you gradually work on your sense of peace. Peace is being neutral with every emotion that pops up. It’s being okay, even when you’re feeling conflicting things and not just “happy.”

You’ll know you’re tapping in when you wake up with that sense of giddiness for your life. Not because you know exactly what’s going to happen in your day but because you have no idea how your day will actually play out and you're simply curious to find out.

3. You care less about logic and more about what feels right to your soul and to your spirit.

(Aka you're choosing to be heart-centered). Logic feels safe. There is validity around it. It makes something feel practiced, rehearsed, and proven. Hence why we innately want to move toward logic. We look at the stats to see why we shouldn’t start something rather than start it. Logic keeps us from doing scary things.

However, when you decide to start focusing on what feels right to your soul you begin to allow yourself to break the rules a bit. Eventually, you may even start to like breaking the rules a bit. In fact, once you start I know you’ll love the feeling of following your spirit and soul. Logic will feel more like the enemy or the antagonist and your spirit will feel like your bestie.

4. You focus less on the fear you carry and more on your intuition.

(Aka you acknowledge and are aware of your feelings and how they show up in your body). Fear is always going to exist in our life. Which means, we’re constantly given the opportunity to choose bravery or fear.

Our body holds onto emotions. They are sensations that are trying to tell your body something special. Something that fear can’t tell you, that logic won’t discuss, and that people won’t understand. You, however, need to listen closely and begin to understand how your body and your intuition is trying to share something with you. Once you tap into yourself you begin to look at fear as not something you shouldn’t do but an opportunity to see what’s on the other side of the fear.

Check in with yourself. Are you tapping into your truest potential or are you stuck doing what everyone else is doing? The choice is yours to be made.
