Rebel: Fonts

How do you choose a font for the brand archetype that specializes in breaking the rules? You find something just as wild and free as them!

The choices for fonts here are almost endless, as the Rebel wants to encourage everyone to do whatever it is they want to do. Looking at fonts that can draw attention and inspire revolution is exactly where we start!

Let’s get into the fonts!

Nineties starts things off as a display font inspired by the 90’s (shocking, I know). It is a funky and modern font that is both memorable and stylish. Special attention is shown to the lowercase e’s and s’s that use geometric shapes and angles to add some pizazz. A great choice for any Rebel brand, it is nonconforming and different.

What may seem like an average sans serif font, Filson Pro is a subtle choice for the Rebel brand archetype. As a geometric sans serif with 16 (yeah you heard that right!) different weights, it is extremely versatile. It provides lots of opportunities for mixing and matching between uppercase and lowercase to create disruption, something that the Rebel loves!

Aerioz is an all-caps monoline font with tons of funky flourishes to help you customize it to exactly what you need. It combines smooth rounded lines and curves with the boldness of all capital letters, something that isn’t done too often! Use this font to channel the wild and free energy that will resonate with your audience.

An extreme contrast and bubbly serif typeface, Gaze has old-style influence and is a stand-out in the crowd. It is a great way to get the trustworthiness and tradition of serif fonts while still adding a bit of Rebel flair. It helps show your audience that they are free to express themselves and that you will be right by their side through it all.

Tan Moonlight is a powerful and unique display typeface inspired by the groovy energy of the 70s. Words typed in this font have a sense of rhythm to them! Its altered letterforms make it a bit hard to read, but that can be used to your advantage! Break some of the traditional type rules, just as you would encourage your audience to do.

Being a Rebel brand archetype doesn’t mean that you have to follow the bad-boy leather jacket aesthetic that it is sometimes distilled down to. It means that you disrupt whatever is considered normal, and however you go about that is up to you! Chill more is a traditional sand serif font that is disrupted by a wave-like texture through the middle. Great for short phrases or logo design, it has a well-deserved spot on our list.

Genty is best described as delightfully bold. It is trendy and vibrant, generating a feeling of energy and emotion. Its soft appearance is something that may not initially be considered for the Rebel, but that is part of what makes it a great option! Use it to unexpectedly contrast some of the dark and wild visuals you will be using for your brand.

Solving the issue of searching for the perfect handwritten typeface, Oliver Label is both realistic and refined. Perfectly unique and unbothered, it works great for adding handwritten-looking notes to any design. It resembles the carefree and limitless characteristics of this brand archetype, forging its own path with its personality.

Blunt is a dynamic and strong font with rounded corners and curvy insides. It follows the current trends while retaining a bit of a vintage influence. It comes as a type bundle, including a solid and outline version that can be used and layered together to make unexpected and rebellious combinations.

Rounding out our recommendations for the Rebel brand archetype is a vintage and old-school font inspired by classic posters. Sarcastic’s swashes and ligatures can be combined strategically to mimic the fierce and revolutionary appearance of classic Rebel examples such as motorcycles, tattoos, and other brands.

To me, the Rebel exudes coolness and confidence. Choose a font that shows these qualities to your audience and helps you activate the most important qualities of your Rebel brand archetype. Challenge the norms and expectations that are presented to you, and you will succeed in attracting those who need your support the most.
