Three make up tips for your next brand photoshoot
I recently shared three hot makeup tips for your next brand photoshoot on Instagram.
These super basic ideas will help you feel ready and confident for your next brand photoshoot, promising the library of photo and video assets you’re building for your brand go far beyond any short live make up trend.
Tip 1: crank up the moisture
Yep, moisturized skin is better for a flawless face.
I’m a sucker for a quick nightly routine, but I add a few extra steps the night before I have a brand photoshoot; extra deep moisture please!
Adding supple moisture to your skin creates the perfect palette to apply make up to, so the night before a brand photoshoot, I typically wash and then sluff off dead skin with a scrub, then generously apply my favorite serums, moisturizers, and oils with a heavy hand, letting each soak in thoroughly before going on to my next product.
If I have time, I’ll also add a quick mask to the routine after scrubbing and before I moisturize. But unless it’s a lazy Sunday, I might not have the extra time for this luxury!
My go to moisturizers depend on the season, but adding a hyaluronic acid serum year round has changed my skin game. I never use this on dry skin, so immediately after washing with my favorite Cleansing Balm or Oil to Milk Cleanser, I apply either a Vitamin C Serum or Hyaluronic Sea Serum (BONUS! I just found this $20 off your order of $80 coupon for you!). If my skin has dried from washing, likely because my toddler distracted me, I’ll re-dampen with a spritz or twelve of a Hydrating Mist.
After my hyaluronic acid trip, it’s on to moisturizer. I use a handful of different options on rotation, but I never ever skip this step.
An extra part of my routine before a brand photoshoot is to ensure I also apply a facial oil. I love the smell of this Blue Tansy facial oil and love it to seal in all the moisturizing I just spent 5 whole minutes obsessing over.
The next morning, I’m brand photoshoot ready with the dewiest glow. I typically don’t rewash in the AM and head straight to moisturizer. I also avoid facial oils in the AM so my makeup isn’t straining against overly slick skin.
Spending the extra time the night before your next brand photoshoot is surely worth the healthy glow you’ll achieve for those gorgeous photos! Here are a few of my favorite skincare products to help my skin glow:
Tip 2: layer it up
Fancy cameras, professional lights, and your next close up mean a slightly heavier hand is needed for applying your makeup.
When I’m getting brand photoshoot ready, I add extra concealer to my inner and outer eyes to hide any darkness and brighten that area up. I enhance my cheekbones by layering a bit of contour where it counts, and I never skimp on the bronzer, especially if artificial light is present. A heavier than normal application helps combat high-def cameras and for some magical reason won’t actually look heavier. Don’t go crazy though! I’m not suggesting you go as far as stage makeup, which needs to look good from a far distance. Just layer a bit more on the areas you typically focus on anyway and call it a day.
The exception? I’m still gentle with any color on my cheeks; I tend to get hot when I’m shooting and my cheeks naturally flush a bit, so I call that a natural blush and skip it nearly every time.
I don’t spend too much time on my eye look and prefer to just layer on the mascara to help open up my eyes. My recent trick is using a light concealer color on my waterline to help me look awake and keep my eyes poppin! I’m pregnant and have a toddler, so anything helps!
Tip 3: skip hot trends
If you’re building your brand photo library, I don’t typically recommend you pick a trending or bold make up look and instead opt for something a bit more neutral or inline with your preferred daily look. This way, your photos won’t be time-stamped to a trend and you can use and reuse for years to come.
Of course, if it’s on-brand for you to wear bold and hyper-trendy looks, then that trumps my logic here. YOU are your niche, so do what feels best for you, letting your truest self shine and attract those dreamy clients.
If you’re truly stumped with how to do your makeup for your brand photoshoot, develop a solid relationship with a make up artist and see them regularly for your shoots.
You have plenty of other things to consider, like what to wear and hair that wows!
